We are now looking for Research Manager to lead the strategic research agenda at Microelectronics and Quantum Technology research area
As a Research Manager, you are responsible for the visionary leadership of research activities in the research area. You will report to Director, Microelectronics and Quantum Research and work in close collaboration with another Research manager. Division of responsibilities is agreed based on the expertise of the successful applicant, but we expect you to cover at least quantum technologies. You lead the research agenda with high impact and ambitious approach. You collaborate and contribute to the success of whole VTT, our customers and partners. The location of the position is in Espoo.
Microelectronics and quantum technology research area focuses on developing new microelectronics materials, devices and integration methods to power future digital systems and technologies to scaling up quantum computers and systems. We work globally with our clients and research partners to solve global challenges through impactful research. Our excellence is delivered by more than 240 researchers. You will be responsible for:
- Building roadmaps and research project portfolio in the research area and in nominated challenge focus areas.
- Managing and coordinating public funding opportunities and project preparations internally.
- Following the public RDI environment widely and proactively guiding high impact research towards customer needs.
- Actively influencing RDI policies through networks e.g. relevant funding organizations, ministries and the European Commission.
- Creating and nurturing national and international collaboration networks with significant impact.
- Acting as a thought leader who inspires and mentors scientists as well as influences continuous development and growth.
- Participating to operations of InstituteQ and in implementation of the Finnish quantum technology strategy
- Having an active role in academic collaborations as well as participation in development of strategic customer partnerships from research perspective.
Your profile and experience:
- Broad science & technology understanding in the research area and the ability to see where the organization and our partners are headed, define opportunities, and drive actions.
- You have several years’ RDI experience. Strong motivation and track record in leading and coaching teams and/or projects.
- Understanding the application areas for Microelectronics and Quantum technology
- Wide networks of different kinds of stakeholders: research organizations, funding organizations as well as companies both in Finland and internationally.
- Passion for research and innovation and understanding of how research excellence can be applied to meet the industry needs.
- Understanding of the public RDI -funding policies, strategies and landscape in national and EU level.
- Preferably PhD level in a relevant field.
- Professional English language skills (spoken and written).
