About the LCSB

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and
in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.

Your role

You will be responsible for carrying out LC- and GC-based experiments in several research projects, which deal with the role of cellular metabolism in different iPSC-derived model systems of genetic PD. Moreover, you will be involved in cell culture maintenance and differentiation work within the framework of these projects.

You will have the following tasks and accountabilities:

  • Standard molecular biology (Bradford, ELISA, Western blotting, immunocytochemistry) and mitochondrial function (Seahorse technology, colorimetric dyes, enzyme kinetics with spectrophotometry etc.) assays
  • Support of cell culture activities (cell lines, primary cells, iPSC maintenance and differentiation)
  • Real-time PCR, sequencing, cloning of plasmids and viral constructs
  • Preparation of cell extracts for metabolomic analyses and application of LC- and GC-based methods
  • Contribution to general laboratory organisation (ordering, overseeing of stocks, storage, preparation of solutions etc.)

For further information, please contact Prof Anne Grünewald (email address: ).

Your profile

  • Master's degree in neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, or another life science-related discipline
  • Strong background in standard molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with cell culture, ideally with iPSC-derived cellular models
  • Experience in mass spectrometry, preferably in a metabolomics setting
  • Keen interest in investigating the molecular basis of neurodegenerative and neurometabolic diseases
  • Strong motivation to contribute specific parts to larger projects
  • Computational skills, including programming, will be considered as an important asset
  • Solid bioinformatic and biostatistics skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential
