About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Department of Life Sciences and Medicine (DLSM) is part of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine of the University of Luxembourg. DLSM is coordinating all teaching programmes in life sciences, medicine, nursing and midwifery. Research at the department integrates basic and translational, molecular and computational approaches with a focus on cancer biology, as well as clinical research projects in human health and disease.

The DLSM cooperates with the national health care centers and with leading international biomedical research institutions. The University of Luxembourg has set a strategic focus on medicine and health and is actively developing the training and research areas in these domains, creating exceptional opportunities in medical and biomedical initiatives.

Your role

Medical and health sciences education at the University of Luxembourg is rapidly growing and represents a strategic priority for both the University and the country. To foster high-quality teaching within the recently created study programmes, including a bachelor in medicine, several bachelors in nursing sciences and midwifery and medical specialization programmes, the University is recruiting for the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine, a Full Professor/Associate Professor (promotion track) in Histology.

The position focuses on innovative, interdisciplinary teaching in histology (and histopathology) at the bachelor's level and within medical specialization programmes, while also offering access to state-of-the-art infrastructure to support high-level research in related fields. As part of its strategic expansion, the DLSM seeks a Professor who, within the next 5 years, will coordinate the department's medical domain and will work closely with study programme directors, clinical partners and university management to align and consolidate existing and future medical programmes. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape and drive medical education at the University of Luxembourg through innovative teaching approaches and in close collaboration with faculty colleagues and local hospitals.

The successful candidate will coordinate histology/histopathology teaching activities in medicine and health-related programmes, working closely with faculty and clinical colleagues to ensure an integrated and cohesive learning experience. They will be expected to implement a modern histology curriculum using advanced educational technologies, such as virtual histology tools (digital microscopy, virtual slides, augmented/virtual reality technologies, 3D histological experiences) and online resources to provide engaging learning opportunities.

The recruited candidate will have access to cutting-edge infrastructure, labs for practical histology training and a comprehensive simulation unit. They will also coordinate histology courses and practical lab sessions, including the procurement of digital tools and teaching specimens, in collaboration with partner institutions.

Research portfolio: The candidate has an internationally recognised research profile and is expected to lead ambitious research aligned with the university's strategic priorities, including cancer research, neurosciences, data-driven health sciences and digital medicine.

The ideal candidate has a medical background, relevant clinical experience and a strong commitment to incorporating clinical perspectives into histology education to enhance its practical application. Clinical activity may be considered.
