Your Responsibilities

  • Meeting the objectives in accordance with the development agreement to be concluded
  • Technical responsibility for digital archiving within the context of the University of Graz Archives
  • Design, implementation and ongoing development of digital archiving workflows in accordance with current archival standards (OAIS, IIIF, WARC, relevant long-term preservation formats)
  • Initiating and supporting automation processes in archiving, particularly for born-digital data
  • Supporting archivists in processing and cataloguing digital and retro-digitised collections, including born-digital materials (email archiving, web archiving, digital administrative records)
  • Quality assurance for digitisation projects
  • Interface management in collaboration with service providers and partner institutions
  • Independent research and publication activities in the field of History and/or Digital History, particulary in the areas of History of Administration and/or the History of Science
  • Collaboration with established research groups of various national and international research institutions and universities
  • Participation in research projects of the Department of Digital Humanities
  • Participation in the application process for third-party funded projects
  • Independent teaching of courses as well as cooperation in teaching and examination tasks of the department
  • Professional and organizational supervision of students of the Department of Digital Humanities
  • Cooperation in organizational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation measures.

Your Profile

  • Completed PhD in History, Digital Humanities or a related discipline, preferably with a focus on the Long 19th Century
  • Several years’ research experience with a strong academic record; experience working abroad is desirable
  • Proven experience in digital archiving within a university or similar institutional context
  • Knowledge of standards in the fields of records management and digital archiving (ISO 15489, ISAD (G), RNAB, OAIS, etc.)
  • Practical experience in setting up and operating workflows for email archiving and for the web archiving of university online resources
  • Practical experience in applying machine-learning-driven methods to historical sources
  • Proven experience in successfully securing, implementing and leading competitive third-party funded projects as Principal Investigator, particularly in the area of collaborative/large-scale projects
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken German and English
  • Enjoyment of scientific work and working with students
  • Independent and autonomous working style
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams

We offer an annual gross salary of at least € 70.200,20 for a fulltime position. An overpayment based on qualification and experience is possible.
