About our Campus: Hebrew University’s Edmond J. Safra Campus on Givat Ram is a vibrant hub of academic and research excellence nestled in the heart of Jerusalem. Our modern campus boasts state-of-the-art lab facilities, world-renowned faculty, and a stimulating environment that fosters scientific exploration, intellectual growth, and innovation.

About Our Department:  The Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences (https://elsc.huji.ac.il/) is a flagship research institute of the Hebrew University, pioneering the next generation of brain research. At the crossroads of multiple disciplines, our faculty explores neural mechanisms underlying cognition, behavior, perception, memory, and mental health. The Center is home to world-class researchers working at the frontiers of systems neuroscience, neural computation, and brain engineering. We provide our students and researchers with exceptional mentoring, access to advanced technology, and the intellectual freedom to pursue bold scientific questions.

About Our Research: This post-doctoral position investigates the neural code underlying spatial behavior and territoriality in social animals. Specifically, the research explores how spatial representations in the hippocampus for both the self and others are modulated by the neuropeptide Oxytocin. The study aims to uncover how the brain computes social-spatial behaviors such as territory perception and defense. Using cutting-edge wireless electrophysiology in freely moving marmoset monkeys, combined with sophisticated data-driven modeling, the lab seeks to connect neural activity with behavioral computations. The project is supported by ERC-Synergy funding and represents a transformative step toward understanding how brains map space in social contexts.

Job Description: We are looking for outstanding post-doctoral researchers to join the Omer Lab at the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences. The lab (www.omerlab.org) is an interdisciplinary environment, integrating experimental neuroscience with theory, behavioral analysis, and computational modeling. The successful candidate will be part of a highly collaborative and innovative team using novel tools to study neural coding in naturalistic settings. Responsibilities include conducting behavioral and neural experiments, analyzing high-dimensional data, and developing theoretical models of brain-behavior relationships. This is a full-time position and offers the opportunity to contribute to a groundbreaking investigation into the social brain.

About Your Supervisor: Dr. David Omer is a principal investigator at the ELSC and the head of the Omer Lab. His ERC-Synergy funded research explores how Oxytocin influences territoriality and spatial cognition in non-human primates. Dr. Omer is known for his innovative approaches, commitment to scientific rigor, and dedication to mentoring the next generation of neuroscientists.

• A PhD in Neuroscience, Physics, Computer Science, Psychology, Biology, or Engineering
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Experience with neural data analysis, behavioral modeling, or coding (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
• Interest in brain function, spatial cognition, and social neuroscience
• A collaborative spirit, independence, and scientific curiosity

Embracing Diversity: At Hebrew University we believe that diversity inspires creativity, fosters curiosity, and enriches our ecosystem through academic collaboration and cultural exchange. We consider every member of our community an integral part, irrespective of their religion, gender, or ethnic origin.

The University is home to nearly 25,000 students across our 6 campuses, including ~2,500 international students per year representing 90+ countries.
