Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences create a unique environment for multidisciplinary, inspirational and high-impact research and education. Our universities community has its competitive edges in technology, health and society. www.tuni.fi/en
We are looking for an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the field of High-Speed Semiconductor Circuits.
The positions are placed within the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences at Tampere University in the Unit of Electrical Engineering (EE). The EE unit covers a full range of research and educational areas, including Electronics and Embedded System, Electrical Energy Engineering, Communications Engineering, and Radio Systems. Our unit includes 13 full professors, 8 tenure track professors, and roughly 200 staff members. We collaborate closely with several industrial partners and maintain an active presence in the international scientific community.
Site description
Our research encompasses a wide range of activities, including advanced microelectronics technology, System-on-Chip, thin-film devices and circuits, wireless communications and RF technology, printed and flexible electronics, and hybrid integration technology. Integrated photonics and microelectronics have been selected as a strategic profiling area at TAU to be further strengthened by new tenure-track appointments during 2025-2030.
Tampere University is also involved in the Wide bandgap (WBG) ChipAct JU pilotline, where we focus on the development and testing of WBG devices and their integration into advanced modules. The pilot line at Tampere will advance next-generation semiconductor technology with applications in motor control systems, battery management systems, fast charging systems, photovoltaic inverters, power supply systems, and 5G/6G cellular base stations. The Pilot Line infrastructure will also enable the development of techniques and processes for hybrid System-in-Package (SiP) fabrication (SiPFAB), enabling the integration and packaging of semiconductor chips into complete systems.
Furthermore, Tampere University, Tampere City, and Pirkanmaa region have joined forces and devised an ambitious development program for microelectronics, i.e. Chips from Finland initiative. The strategy targets to also strengthen the EU’s Chips Act design excellence in the region with a strong business cluster around wireless communications, intelligent machines, and imaging. To this end, our System-on-Chip Hub (SoC Hub) focuses on large, top quality prototype chips fabricated on the smallest transistor node and aiming at high technology readiness level.
Join us at Tampere University and be part of an exceptional team that drives innovation, fosters collaboration, and shapes the future
Job description
We are seeking highly motivated applicants with a track record of internationally competitive research in High-speed Semiconductor Circuits.
The integration of wide bandgap materials like GaN and SiC is essential for enabling higher operating temperatures and minimizing switching losses in high-speed circuits and develop the next generation power electronics across various systems. Additionally, GaN plays a significant role in enhancing the RF power efficiency of 5G and future 6G base stations. Furthermore, GaN/Si and GaN/SOI bring important benefits in RF front-end modules when paired with materials that have high thermal conductivity.
Especially, we are seeking applicants with expertise for example in the following application areas:
