Are you the scientific computing expert we are looking for and interested in developing your organization's data processing and analytics capabilities?

We are looking for a Senior Specialist for a permanent position in the IT and Digitalisation service group, which is a unit of approximately 35 IT professionals at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). Luke produces data and services to support societal decision-making, and together with our researchers, we are at the forefront of building new digital solutions for the natural resources sector that promote the sustainable use of natural resources both in Finland and abroad.

As a Senior Specialist, your task is to provide scientific computing and data management support to Luke's research units and official functions. You will support the adoption of good practices and methods and the development of data analyses and calculations. You will provide models of best practices in open science. In practical data management work, you will be able to automate processes at different stages of data processing and develop the quality and efficiency of calculations.

Working as a team and working in different types of networks comes naturally to you, and you feel successful when you are able to support others in developing in data processing tasks. Your background may be diverse, but experience in research activities and its processes provides a good starting point for success in the position alongside strong technical expertise.

Our expectations of the applicant

In practice, successful performance of the position requires a university degree suitable for the position, e.g. in the field of information technology or statistics, and professional experience in similar tasks.

We expect the applicant to have good cooperation and interaction skills, a self-motivated and self-directed approach to work, problem-solving skills, the ability to perceive the big picture, and to communicate and document solutions in Finnish and English. We value experience in agile development, automation of data processing, good pressure tolerance and customer-oriented thinking.

• Versatile IT expertise and the ability to develop cost-effective solutions.
• Good Python and R programming skills.
• Good SQL skills.
• Experience in automating processes and producing efficient data processing processes.
• Experience in data modeling, database design, and metadata management.
• Experience in guiding others, transferring know-how and producing instructions.
• You feel like you fit into a culture where there is more to being together than alone.
