Job description :

LIMSET-UM6P is seeking highly qualified candidates for open-rank faculty positions specializing in multi-scale computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and process systems engineering for thermal energy storage and ammonia reactor designs. The selected candidates will contribute to pioneering research in the optimization and design of advanced reactors and energy storage systems, with a focus on thermal energy storage and ammonia synthesis technologies.

The ideal candidates must demonstrate expertise in:

  • Multi-scale CFD modeling, including heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermal energy storage in systems such as packed-bed, phase change materials, and thermochemical storage.
  • Process systems engineering applied to thermal energy storage and ammonia production, using optimization techniques, techno-economic analysis, and life-cycle assessments.
  • Modeling and simulation of catalytic and thermal reactors, integrating reaction kinetics, heat/mass transport, and multiphysics simulations for ammonia synthesis.
  • Integration of AI and machine learning in CFD simulations, advancing reactor and storage system designs for improved efficiency and scalability.
  • Modeling ammonia synthesis reactors, such as Haber-Bosch and alternative ammonia production processes, with a focus on optimizing performance and reducing environmental impacts.
  • Collaboration with experimentalists, utilizing simulations to support reactor design, validation, and prototype development.
  • Industrial collaboration and technology transfer, helping to develop scalable solutions for the hydrogen and ammonia value chain, with a focus on Moroccan and African industries.

Candidate criteria:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field, with expertise in CFD modeling and process systems engineering.
  • Strong expertise in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using tools such as ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, OpenFOAM, or similar for multiphase and reactive flow simulations.
  • Experience in process modeling and optimization, using platforms like Aspen Plus, gPROMS, or Python-based optimization frameworks.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, C++, or Fortran for numerical modeling, simulation automation, and AI model development.
  • Familiarity with thermal energy storage systems, including phase change materials, molten salts, and thermochemical storage; or Experience in catalytic reactor modeling, particularly in ammonia production (e.g., Haber-Bosch process or alternative synthesis routes).
  • Strong publication record in computational modeling, energy systems, and process engineering.
  • Ability to secure research funding and lead interdisciplinary research projects.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.

Application and selection:

The application application must contain:

  • A cover letter setting out the candidate's motivation in relation to this job profile.
  • A detailed curriculum vitae.
  • Brief research statement.
  • Contact information of 3 referees (PhD mentor, postdoctoral mentor, and a third referee familiar with the applicant’s education, research, and entrepreneurial experience. Applicants are assumed to have obtained their references’ consent to be contacted for this matter).

Working conditions of the position:

This position offers competitive benefits, research funding opportunities, and access to state-of-the-art facilities at UM6P, fostering a dynamic and innovative research environment.

Deadline: The selection process ends once the candidates are selected

Start of contract: As soon as possible.
