DESCRIPTION OF GSMI :

 GSMI (Geology & Sustainable Mining institute) aims to strengthen its industrial partnerships within and beyond Morocco and Africa by adopting an integrated and sustainable strategic vision of R&D and training. The institute focuses on various aspects of the mine lifecycle and aims to provide significantly higher added value. In addition to conventional mineral resources R&D, GSMI places emphasis on developing the mine of the future, which includes areas such as geo-mineralogy of mineral resources, circular economy, resource governance, sustainable management of water in mining, and integrated management of mine discharges.

Furthermore, GSMI offers several state-of-the-art R&D platforms that are at the forefront of science and technology. These platforms serve as advanced research and development facilities for conducting cutting-edge research and exploring technological advancements in the field.

Job Description

The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) is seeking applications for an 18-month postdoctoral position in structural geology with a particular emphasis on hydrocarbon reservoir systems. We are especially interested in candidates with research interests in geomechanics, tectonics, sedimentary basin dynamics, and hydrocarbon reservoir systems. The selected candidate is expected to conduct fieldwork investigations, seismic interpretation, Image Log and core logging focused on structural geology of the Meskala basin. This will involve a thorough structural analyses, multiscale stress and strain characterisation, analysis of hydrocarbon reservoirs, mainly traps characterisation (including the timing of trap formation) and fluid migration. The candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of sedimentary basins, excellent proficiency in analyzing the different facets of hydrocarbon reservoir systems, interpreting seismic data, and applying structural geology and geomechanics principles. An experience in numerical modelling and/or petrophysics would be an asset for the candidate.

The position is open to candidates holding a Ph.D. degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field with a focus on structural geology and geomechanics.
