The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a full-time Professor position in the field of Applied Structural Geology, with an expected start date as soon as possible. The appointment will be at the Assistant Professor/Scientist level depending on the curriculum vitae and past experience of the successful candidate.

The position is directed at internationally renowned candidates with proven expertise in structural geology applied to geohazard assessment and/or mineral exploration. The candidate must have a robust background in field structural geology, including complex structures mapping, fault analysis through morphotectonical and paleoseismological approches, absolute dating, active tectonics as well as remote sensing skills. 

The recruited professor is expected to direct his research, in particular, but not exclusively, towards:

  • Investigating scientific questions linking structural geology to societal challenges related to geologic resources and geohazards.
  • Advancing the understanding of geological hazards such as landslides and seismic hazads through detailed structural analysis.
  • Developing and applying innovative methods for mapping and active fault analysis;

The candidate must have a proven ability to design, coordinate, and organize scientific research projects, as well as to establish intra and extramural funded research programs. The ability to develop partnerships with industry and state entities is highly desirable. The candidate must have experience working in a team of geoscientists and engineers to advance studies on structural geology and achieve the objectives of grant-funded research programs. He/she is expected to set up a research topic in Modelling Earth’s Geodynamics, Tectonics & Geohazards within the Geoscience Pole of Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute. Finally, the candidate should have demonstrated potential for academic and scientific leadership. Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is also expected.

A Ph.D. in Geology with a specializations related to structural geology, tectonics & geohazards is required. In addition to convincing and stimulating research and teaching plans, the candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact publications in top-ranked, field-relevant journals, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline.

  • A description of the most significant scientific achievements,
  • A digital copy and summary of the PhD thesis,
  • A statement of research and teaching interests and plans,
  • Written references from 2 persons or contact details for them,
