Areas of research and Expertise

The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) is currently seeking a professor specializing in mining hydrogeology and hydrology. The ideal candidate should demonstrate extensive expertise in: 

  • Groundwater flow dynamics. 
  • Groundwater modeling.
  • Aquifer characterization (physical, hydraulic properties)
  • Groundwater characterization (hydrogeochemistry, hydrobiology, etc.).
  • Open pits and underground mines dewatering.
  • Water management and monitoring (surface and subsurface).
  • Climate change adaptation in water resources.
  • Reactive transport modeling.

Job Description

The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic invites applications for a full-time permanent position in mining hydrogeology and hydrology. We seek candidates with a strong research background in groundwater flow dynamics and modelling, aquifer and groundwater characterization, mining operations dewatering, mining waters management and monitoring, and reactive transport modeling. The candidate must demonstrate good publication and teaching records. 

The successful candidate will have the following key responsibilities (but not limited to):

  • Leading cutting-edge research projects focused on mine waters monitoring and recycling,
  • Managing research projects and building collaborations with interdisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Securing research funding through grant applications and industry partnerships.
  • Mentoring graduate students and junior researchers.
  • Optionally teaching advanced courses in hydrogeology and hydrology
  • Publishing impactful research findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contributing to the strategic planning and research direction of the GSMI.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in hydrogeology, hydrology, earth sciences or a related field.
  • Proven track record of securing research funding.
  • Experience in supervising graduate students and leading research teams.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Good background hydrogeology and hydrology.
