- with focus on education and research
Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The Department of Medicine, Solna (MedS) is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet, conducting research, doctoral education, and undergraduate training for students in medicine and biomedicine. Within the cardiovascular field, MedS conducts leading research spanning from fundamental molecular mechanisms to large-scale clinical studies. Key areas of expertise include aortic aneurysms and valvular heart disease, heart failure, atherosclerosis, vascular biology, diabetes-related cardiovascular disease, inflammation, metabolism, cardiovascular epidemiology, and genetics. The cardiovascular research is organized within the Divisions of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Medicine.
We offer a stimulating and internationally recognized research environment where you will have the opportunity to contribute to medical education and research of the highest quality. The environment is particularly strong in translational research, with a close collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital.
The research focus is on aortic aneurysms and aortic valve disease, complex and life-threatening conditions that are frequently associated with significant comorbidity. Despite advances in surgical treatment, opportunities for prediction and prevention remain limited, highlighting the need for translational research that bridges molecular and genetic mechanisms with clinical application. A particular strength is the study of human tissue samples obtained from patients undergoing surgery, supported by access to a unique and well-established biobank of aortic and valvular tissue. This resource provides an exceptional platform for conducting high-quality research within the field.
The position as Senior Lecturer involves research within the field of cardiovascular medicine and cardiology, as well as teaching responsibilities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in biomedicine.
Duties include leading a research group conducting cardiovascular research, with an initial emphasis on aortic diseases and associated aortic valve disorders. The research program should have a clear translational focus, integrating advanced molecular biology techniques with genetics and clinical outcome data, with the goal of developing novel therapeutic approaches and follow-up strategies. The position also includes course leadership within the Bachelor's Programme in Biomedicine, and supervision of undergraduate and master's students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers.
