Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Medicine, Solna, is one of the largest departments at Karolinska Institutet. The department consists of several units that are separated into different research groups. The core activities of the department are research, doctoral education and undergraduate education for medical and biomedical students. The research has three main profiles: allergy, cardiovascular medicine and inflammatory diseases.

Your mission

We are seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician to join our projects on T cell biology in complex inflammatory skin diseases. The successful candidate will:

  • Plan, execute, and interpret bioinformatic analyses of single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing data, including T cell receptor and mRNA sequencing data generated via the 10x Genomics workflow and Illumina sequencing.
  • Analyze additional data sets from the lab, such as spatial transcriptomics (Nanostring, Visium), tissue proteomics, and high-dimensional microscopy data.
  • Carefully document analytical pipelines and communicate results effectively within the research group and to external collaborators.
  • Collaborate in building an in-house bioinformatics hub with other groups within the Research Area of Inflammation at CMM.
  • Develop new analytical algorithms to address complex, high-dimensional data.
  • Engage in local collaborations at Karolinska Institutet and with external partners at other institutions.

The bioinformatician will contribute to hypothesis generation, experimental design, data analysis, scientific presentations, and manuscript preparation. The position requires a balance of independent work and team collaboration. The candidate will be expected to participate actively in research meetings, contribute to a vibrant and collegial research environment, and provide guidance to other lab members. The Eidsmo lab offers a supportive setting for career development.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious candidate with the following requirements:

  • A PhD in bioinformatics or a related field (to be completed before the start date).
  • Strong theoretical knowledge and practical experience in bioinformatics.
  • Prior experience in omics analysis of human T cells, immune cells and/or stroma cells
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain bioinformatics concepts and analysis choices to non-specialist colleagues.
  • A collaborative, proactive, and problem-solving mindset, with high attention to detail and scientific rigor.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Excellent time-management skills and reliable delivery of data to collegues

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown:

  • Prior experience with human tissue data, 10x Genomics–based sequencing (including feature barcoding), and spatial transcriptomics.

What do we offer?

A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about life and to promote a better health for all. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several good benefits through our collective agreement. And you get to practice freely in our modern wellness facilities, where trained staff are on site.

Location

This position is based at the Department of Medicine, Solna, within the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM)—a nationally leading and internationally recognized research environment focused on tissue inflammation. The role is positioned in the Eidsmo Laboratory, part of the Division of Dermatology and Venereology. The division promotes active interdisciplinary collaboration among research groups working in molecular and cellular immunology, supporting innovative approaches to both fundamental and translational research.

The Eidsmo Lab investigates the role of human resident T cells in chronic inflammatory skin conditions, with a particular focus on understanding the immunological mechanisms underlying the formation and persistence of localized disease memory in psoriasis and vitiligo. Our work aims to address this significant clinical challenge using state-of-the-art technologies, including flow cytometry of tissue-derived cells, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and advanced imaging methods.
