Position (Job Purpose)   

The Dean will provide visionary leadership for the College in alignment with HBKU’s strategic plan (hbku_strategic_plan_2016_-_2026.pdf) and Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which focuses on economic development, human development, social development, and environmental development (https://www.gco.gov.qa/en/about-qatar/national-vision2030/).   

Job Description 

The key responsibilities of the Dean are to

• Develop and implement the College’s strategic plan, goals, and initiatives. 
• Oversee and enhance the College’s academic programs to meet the evolving needs of students and Qatar society.
• Promote and support innovative research initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration across HBKU and within Qatar Foundation's Education City.
• Recruit, support, and retain a diverse and high-caliber faculty.
• Cultivate strong relationships with external stakeholders (e.g., alums, government bodies, collaborating institutions, and industry partners).

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

• PhD in an area of social sciences or humanities.
• Have earned the rank of professor at an established, well-recognized university.
• Proven experience in academic leadership, including successful administration, program development, and strategic planning.
• An excellent track record of scholarly research, publications, and funded research projects.
• A forward-looking perspective on the role of humanities and social sciences in addressing local, regional, and global challenges. 
• A track record of engaging and collaborating with stakeholders.
• Knowledge of the region and competency in the Arabic language are desirable.
