University of Turku is extending its research to materials and mechanical engineering, and from the beginning of 2021, a Faculty of Technology was created and within it the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

We are currently looking for

one doctoral researcher/project researcher in the field of Soft Matter join the group of Computational Soft Matter lead by Ass. Prof. Alberto Scacchi. The position is fixed-term and the starting time for this position would be as soon as possible according to mutual agreement, and the contract duration will be for 3 years for PhD candidatesThe length of the contract for a project researcher is until the candidate is expected to have the doctoral study rights.

If you have an interest in using theory and computer simulations to address contemporary challenges in the realm of soft materials, you are a perfect fit for our team. This position offers you a unique opportunity to apply state-of-the-art modelling methods for better understanding colloidal film formation and their stability, with the aim of catalyzing a transformative shift towards more sustainable practices across diverse industry sectors involving film-forming formulations. Your work will be carried out in collaboration with cutting-edge experimental research. We are looking for passionate, dynamic and curious candidates, able to work both individually and in an interdisciplinary team.


Who we are looking for

Requirements

The candidate should have a background in physics, applied mathematics, material science, or comparable fields, and have previous experience in computer simulations or soft matter theory. Basic knowledge of statistical mechanics is preferred. A person selected for this post is required to have a higher university degree. In addition, when acquiring their degree or otherwise, doctoral researchers are required to have demonstrated the ability and motivation to undertake postgraduate studies and the capacity to complete a doctoral degree in accordance with the research plan. In this position, you will apply for the study right for doctoral studies at the University of Turku in the next possible call (in this case in spring 2025). Thus, please check the student information and application criteria that you need to meet. In particular, please pay attention to mandatory skill level in English. Salary and trial period

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience based on the University salary system and will at the beginning of the employment be approximately 2400-2500 €/month. A trial period of six (6) months is applied.
