The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tübingen invites applications for a position at the Institute for Medical Genetics and Applied Genomics for a
available by October 1st, 2025. The position will be filled on a salaried basis unless the person to be appointed already is a civil servant.
The professorship is linked to the directorship of the Institute for Medical Genetics and Applied Genomics.
The successful candidate represents medical genetics and genomics in teaching and patient care and will conduct excellent research in their area of specialization, preferably oncology, neurology or rare diseases. Expertise in the field of genomic medicine (genetic, transcriptomic, epigenetic analysis, incl. single-cell technologies) is required, aiming at translation and contributions to therapy development. The national and international visibility of the candidate’s clinical and scientific activities is a prerequisite.
The Institute for Medical Genetics and Applied Genomics is one of Europe’s leading institutes for human genetics and is an integral part of the Centre for Rare Diseases Tübingen (ZSE) with close links to the clinical disciplines. Its central tasks include patient care as well as handling research questions from all areas of genetics.
The future post holder should have substantial experience in the management and business administration of a department or institute as well as strong personnel management skills.
The willingness and commitment to actively participate in current and planned research networks within and outside the Faculty of Medicine (in particular Collaborative Research Centers, Research Units, German Centers for Health Research, Centre for Personalized Medicine, Clusters of Excellence and Excellence Strategy) are required. In particular, active participation in the Gene and RNA Therapy Centre Tübingen (GRTC) is expected.
In the field of teaching, comprehensive experience evaluated as outstanding and involvement are expected, as well as active design of lectures and other teaching formats, particularly in view of innovative curricula in the degree programs taught at the Tübingen Faculty of Medicine.
The position has a teaching commitment of nine hours per week during the semester.
Prerequisites for employment are a licence to practise medicine, a specialist qualification in human genetics obtained in Germany or an international equivalent recognised as equivalent by the Baden-Württemberg Medical Association, as well as postdoctoral qualifications and teaching experience equivalent to the requirements of a full professorship.
