Doctoral Researcher in Theoretical and Computational Nanophysics

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

• Work as a part of a research team
• Develop skills in non-equilibrium many-body theory and computational methods, and apply them to investigations of scanning-probe schemes for two-dimensional materials or radiation in nanojunctions
• Present research in international conferences and project meetings and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely fashion
• As a Doctoral Student pursue your doctoral studies at the University of Jyväskylä
• Write a PhD thesis and defend it successfully within the term of the employment

Qualifications

• A Master's degree in physics and a thesis written on a theoretical/computational topic.
• Good basis in quantum mechanics, statistical physics, and computational methods. Previous experience in non-equilibrium many-body theory is considered as bonus.
• A high proficiency in spoken and written English.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a Doctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The MSc degree required for the position must have been completed before starting the position. Doctoral Researcher needs to be also enrolled in the doctoral programme which can be applied from the Faculty of Mathematics and Science after selection for the position. The employment starts with a trial period of six months.

The primary areas of research at the Department of Physics are materials physics, nuclear physics and particle physics. In materials physics, the core research fields are the physics of nanomaterials and thin films, quantum matter and quantum technologies, light-matter interaction and physics and chemistry of nanoparticles. Nuclear physics concentrates on nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure and applied accelerator-based research, and particle physics on the physics of the strong interaction and ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions, particle cosmology and neutrino physics. The department hosts an Academy of Finland Center of Excellence in Quark Matter. Experimental research at the Department is conducted in the Accelerator Laboratory, the multidisciplinary Nanoscience Center (NSC) and in foreign research centers such as CERN and FAIR.
