At the Institute of Telecommunications of TU Wien, the Research Unit of Networks is offering a PhD student position as university assistant (prae-doc, 30 hours/week, limited to expected 4 years). Expected start: September 2024.

Tasks:

  • Research and teaching tasks
  • Cooperation in project activities
  • Writing a dissertation and scientific publications
  • (Co)Supervision of students
  • Assistance in teaching in the field of network security and communication networks, including preparation and supervision of laboratories in this field
  • Participation in scientific events
  • Assisting with organizational and administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • Master's or diploma degree (e.g. electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics) or equivalent university degree from Austria or abroad.
  •  Knowledge of scientific work
  •  Good theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas of communication networks (IPv4, IPv6, TLS, IPsec, transport layer protocols), network security and data analysis methods
  •  Knowledge in the following areas is an advantage: network data analysis, anomaly detection, machine learning, secure communication protocols in energy networks (smart grids, microgrids), network simulation (e.g. ns-3), programming skills
  •  Excellent knowledge of English, knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Interest in research in the field and in working with students
  • Ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills and innovative ability

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,684.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
