For a recently funded Excellence Program (www.fwf.ac.at/en/research-radar/10.55776/EFP45) we are looking for an interdisciplinary Postdoc (f/m/d) to unravel the role of T cells in the tumor microenvironment of osteosarcoma, a devastating pediatric cancer. In this role, you will work in a leading center for pediatric oncology. The Taschner-Mandl Lab tackles unresolved questions of pathogenesis of cancer in children (Fetahu IS, Nat Comms, 2023). You will work at the intersection of cancer genomics and tumor immunology, employ single cell- and spatial omics techniques, with the final goal to develop innovative cellular therapies against osteosarcoma.

Your responsibilities

You will:

  • Handle primary tissue and cell cultures for genomic, spatial imaging and functional studies
  • Analyze genomics data (*-seq) and identify clinically relevant biological signals
  • Contribute to an excellence research program with a clear and important mission
  • Work as part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary research team and benefit from joint supervision by computational and cancer experts
  • Write manuscripts, present at scientific conferences, and attend courses
  • Apply for PostDoc fellowships and learn how to obtain funding for your research
  • Supervise and support junior members of our team

Your profile

What you bring for this position:

  • PhD degree (obtained or in final stages) in the areas of cancer genomics or immunology
  • At least one first-author paper in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Proficiency in lab experimental work including primary tissue and cell culture, NGS library preparation, genome editing, knockdown/overexpression, microscopy and tissue/spatial multi-plex imaging/omics, etc.
  • Proficiency in NGS data analysis (R and python) is an asset
  • Self-initiative and proactive mind-set
  • Experience in single cell RNA-seq analysis or tissue imaging technologies are a plus
