Postdoctoral assistant in teaching: Media Psychology

Within KU Leuven, the School of Mass Communication Research (SMCR, see our website) represents a pioneering institution for media effects research. SMCR’s ultimate intent is to inspire key players and stakeholders in society as well as individuals and their families with robust evidence on both adverse and beneficial effects of media and with a sound understanding of how media can be employed to achieve goals of social relevance. Issues studied in recent years include alcohol and drug abuse, sexuality and sexism, depression, body image, and sleep. Within this context, SMCR is looking for a postdoctoral teaching assistant.

Responsibilities

We offer a one-year position as a postdoctoral assistant in teaching. The candidate will be asked to teach various courses. Examples of potential courses that will be asked to teach are Media-effects, Medialab 4, Media-effects and Children, Quantitative research seminar and Quantitative data analyses. Knowledge of R is necessary to develop course material and student exercises. The candidate will further supervise master theses in the master program Communication Sciences at KU Leuven.

Profile

The candidate: 

• should have obtained a PhD in communication sciences or social sciences.
• has an academic profile related to (digital) media effects and psychology (e.g., demonstrated by publications, PhD-thesis).
• has published in international, peer-reviewed academic journals.
• has ample experience with quantitative and qualitative methods.
• is able to fluently teach/write in English and Dutch.
• has prior experience in supervising master theses.

Offer

A 1-year contract as a doctor assistant that preferably starts on 1 September 2024. Salary and benefits are in line with the university salary scales for post-doctoral staff (barema 44).
