YOUR TASKS

We are looking for a talented pre-doctoral researcher to engage in a small 6-month research project related to the molecular modelling of lubricants to extract thermos-mechanical properties at elevated temperatures and pressures. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and evaluation of proper, reliable and accurate calculation methods to obtain viscosity and thermal conductivity of hydrocarbons, using Python coding and LAMMPS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting up, automating and running vast amounts of EMD simulation of various systems of hydrocarbon molecules using LAMMPS on the VSC/HPC (https://www.vscentrum.be/ ) .

  • Development and implementation of novel, high-fidelity post-processing techniques, involving statistical mechanics. to calculate macro-scale transport properties of molecular systems, including viscosity and thermal conductivity, using Python.

  • Dissemination of the results in a scientific publication

  • Initiation of follow-up research.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master's degree in Physics (Engineering). Chemistry (Engineering) or equivalent.
  • You have a proven track record in molecular dynamics modelling.
  • You have hands-on experience with High Performance Computing
  • You possess good analytical skills
  • You have experience with Python coding and development.
  • You take responsibility for the development of your project in a well-structured, thorough way, and you’re able to solve problems independently. You display creativity in solving problems, generating ideas or finding new ways of working.
  • You have an open personality and are willing to collaborate with both scientific and technical staff to complete the project.
  • You have excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period from 01/01/2025 to 30/06/2025, i.e. 6 months.
  • Your contract will start on 1/01/2025 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales.
