Job description

Job Description

As renewable hydrogen production systems scale up to gigawatt levels, harmonic distortion and resonance become critical challenges in ensuring power quality and grid compliance. The Netherlands is at the forefront of this transition, with offshore wind energy and hydrogen production playing a key role in achieving its renewable energy goals.

This postdoc position focuses on advancing the understanding and mitigation of harmonic phenomena in large-scale renewable hydrogen production systems. You will develop cutting-edge tools and techniques to model, analyze, and address harmonic interactions in complex power systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Harmonic Modeling: Develop advanced models to predict harmonic emissions from hydrogen production systems using various power converter technologies (e.g., voltage source converters, diode rectifiers).
  • Propagation and Interaction Analysis: Investigate harmonic propagation in interconnected systems and their interaction with grid elements.
  • Mitigation Strategies: Propose and validate innovative methods to mitigate harmonic distortion and improve system compliance with grid codes.
  • Experimentation and Validation: Conduct experimental studies to validate harmonic models and mitigation techniques using real-world data and simulation tools.

Job requirements

  • PhD in power quality, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in harmonic modeling, analysis, and mitigation in power systems.
  • Familiarity with power converter technologies and renewable energy integration.
  • Strong analytical skills and a track record of impactful publications in power quality or related fields.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Conditions of employment

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:

  • Full-time employment for one year.
  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 10 (min. €4,020 max. €5,278).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • High-quality training programs on general skills, didactics and topics related to research and valorization.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus children's day care and sports facilities.
  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • A TU/e Postdoc Association that helps you to build a stronger and broader academic and personal network, and offers tailored support, training and workshops.
  • A Staff Immigration Team is available for international candidates, as are a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) and a compensation for moving expenses.
