W 3 (Full)-Professorship
in Inorganic Chemistry
(successor to Prof. Dr. Tuczek)

to start April 1, 2025.

The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area of inorganic molecular chemistry in research and teaching.

We are looking for an internationally recognized scientist with outstanding research achievements in the chemistry of molecular inorganic systems, such as the synthesis, characterization and application of compounds of main group elements or transition metals, for example for molecular catalysis. Other examples of current research topics are the activation of small molecules, energy conversion, photo- or electrochemistry, but other areas are also welcome. The new professor shall complement the existing fields of research at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry and contribute to the research profile of CAU’s Chemistry Section with its focus areas of functional materials, energy and biosystems. Furthermore, we seek for candidates with sound experience in the use of modern analytical methods of spectroscopy and/or single crystal structure analysis, which should be further developed on the basis of the institute's equipment.

We expect a high level of motivation to collaborate in and contribute to existing and planned interdisciplinary research networks in leading roles, particularly in the university’s priority research areas „Kiel Nano, Surface and Interface Science” (KiNSIS) and „Kiel Life Science” (KLS).

Experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funding is mandatory. Active participation in the teaching program of the institute is required as part of the regular teaching load regulated by the decree LVVO (Landesverordnung über die Lehrverpflichtung an Hochschulen) of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Furthermore, the willingness to teach courses in German and English is expected, as well as participation in the further development of the chemistry degree programs and in academic self-administration. The appointment is linked to management tasks in the institute and experience in leadership positions is therefore desirable.

Please refer to the recruitment requirements of § 61 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein. More information can be found at www.berufungen.uni-kiel.de (in German). For further information about the position and the research unit, please contact Prof. Dr. Malte Behrens (mbehrens@ac.uni-kiel.de).

Kiel University is striving to increase the number of female scientists in research and teaching and therefore expressly encourages qualified women to apply. Women will be given priority if their aptitude, qualifications and professional performance are of equal value.

Kiel University is commited to the employment of people with disabilities: Applications from severely disabled persons and their equals will be given preferential treatment if they have the appropriate qualifications.

We expressly welcome applications from people with a migration background. Application photographs are not required and we expressly request that you refrain from submiting any.

Applications including the usual documents (curriculum vitae, list of publications, list of courses taught, detailed research and teaching perspectives on maximum 8 pages, copies of academic degree certificates) along with your private and business address, telephone number and e-mail address should be submited by 08.12.2024, (preferably in electronic form as a single PDF document) to: The Dean, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Kiel University, 24098 Kiel, Germany, (berufungen@mnf.uni-kiel.de).
