ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTRUCTORS

Founded in 1984 as Türkiye’s first private, non-profit university, Bilkent University has quickly established itself as a major research center for research and teaching, attracting world-renowned scholars to faculty and many of the very best high school graduates to its study body. The university consists of nine faculties, six graduate schools (institutes), thirteen research centers.

The medium of instruction for all courses (except for Turkish law) is English. The faculty is comprised of academic staff from over 37 different countries. The university seeks for English Language Instructors for its English Language Instructors for its English Language Preparatory Program (PREP). These are non-tenure track positions with an initial contract of two years, renewable annually upon mutual agreement.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • a Master’s degree* in TEFL, TESOL, education, English or a related field
  • teaching qualifications (CELTA, Delta, TESOL Certificate etc.)
  • good interpersonal and organizational skills
  • adaptability and flexibility
  • experience in designing curricula and materials
  • preferably experience living abroad

*Exceptionally qualified / experienced candidates without a Master’s degree may also be given consideration

The English Language Preparatory Program http://prep.bilkent.edu.tr helps students acquire the required level of English for entry into academic programs in their chosen departments. The program has a highly qualified teaching body of approximately 120 local and international instructors. Students registered to Bilkent University, based on their performance on the school’s in-house proficiency test called the Proficiency in Academic English (PAE), either start their degree programs or are placed in one of the five levels in the English Language Preparatory Program. Students may study in the program for up to two academic years. Through a learner-centered approach to teaching, the program equips students with English Language and academic skills for them to be able to use their knowledge effectively in all aspects of life. The English Language Preparatory Program is possibly one of the largest English Language schools in world, teaching English to around 2000 students each semester. The English Language Preparatory Program provides instructors with a professional and stimulating place to work. Early career instructors joining the program are supported through a structured in-service training course. The program has also been running the Cambridge English Delta courses since 1992 and the course is offered to instructors on scholarship.
