The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a

Professorship (§ 36 HG NRW) in “Multilingualism at school”

(legal basis: W 2 LBesG NRW).

The position will be located in the School of Education.

The position is to be taken as soon as possible.

The Institute for Educational Research within the School of Education focuses on empirical school-related research on educational studies and special educational issues in the context of the various levels and institutions of the education system. It is responsible for the educational science components of all degree programmes leading to a teaching degree as well as the special education degree programmes (learning area learning and emotional and social development).

We are looking for a person who conducts empirical research on topics of multilingualism and linguistic-cultural heterogeneity in school contexts and represents educational sciences in the degree programmes leading to a teaching degree. The person will be responsible for the module “Deutsch für Schülerinnen und Schüler mit Zuwanderungsgeschichte” (language of instruction is German).

Prerequisites

  • Very good doctoral degree and habilitation or equivalent/equivalent achievements for habilitation
  • Relevant empirical research and publication activities (in particular articles in international peer-reviewed journals)
  • International orientation (e. g. collaborations, visibility at international conferences)
  • Relevant teaching experience in teaching-related degree programmes
  • (Participation in) acquisition of third-party funds
  • Interdisciplinary orientation

Expectations for the future

  • Teaching of courses/modules in the study programmes of the School of Education
  • Acquisition of third-party funds
  • Cooperation in teaching and research with other members of the school and with members of other schools (e. g. subject didactics)
  • Participation in the further development of Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in the context of teacher education
  • Participation in the development of innovative teaching and learning concepts in the field of teacher education
  • Collaboration in academic self-governance

Requirements:

Besides pedagogical suitability, which has to be proven by appropriate previous experience or, in exceptional cases, demonstrated by excellent performance during the appointment procedure, the applicant is expected to have a particular aptitude for scientific work substantiated by the outstanding quality of a doctorate. Further scientific achievements must be demonstrated additionally and will be evaluated exclusively and comprehensively during the appointment procedure. The requirements for appointment to a first professorship include junior professorships, habilitations, employment as a research assistant at a university or at a non-university research institution and scientific positions in business, in administration or another social field in Germany or abroad.

The successful candidate is expected to actively support academic self-governance at the university.
