NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA) is a young European university located in the capital of Portugal, one of the safest countries in the world.

NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS - A UNIVERSITY OPEN TO THE WORLD

More than 20,000 students study at NOVA and about 20% are international, of 110 nationalities, contributing to create a multicultural environment.

The more than 559 mobility partnerships in 51 countries allow NOVA students to study abroad and guarantee the university receives around 1,100 exchange students per year.

RANKINGS

NOVA is listed in the most prestigious international rankings of universities where it consistently ranks in the TOP 10 among European universities founded less than 50 years ago.

The rankings are based on criteria such as the quality of teaching and research, the institution's reputation, internationalization or the professional success of graduates.

MISSION

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, as public higher education institution, has as mission to serve the society at the local, regional and global level, through the progress and dissemination of knowledge and understanding between cultures, societies and people, by way of a teaching and research of excellence and of a provision of services based on a strong sense of community and with the following components:

  • An international profile with an emphasis on second and third cycles, but founded on solid first cycles, focused on its students and providing them rigorous knowledge, creativity, critical spirit and sense of citizenship and justice that enables professional success and leadership;
  • A collaborative research, responsible and internationally relevant, concentrating on interdisciplinary areas and including an investigation targeting the resolution of problems that affect society;
  • A service that promotes solidarity and sustainable development in the health, economic, technological, cultural and social plans, founded in the region of Lisbon and compromised on a national and international level, dedicating special attention to the countries where the Portuguese Language is spoken;
  • A wide base of interinstitutional participation, oriented to an integration of different scientific cultures with the purpose of creating innovative synergies for teaching and research.

TALENT ATTRACTION AND DEVELOPMENT

NOVA aims to attract, train and develop students of great talent and high potential through programmes and initiatives such as:

SUPERNOVA - Foundation Programme, a programme for students from outside the European Union who have completed high school and wish to apply for higher education in Portugal in the future.

NOVA Young Talent Awards (NYTA), an initiative that rewards the best students in the 1st year of NOVA's Bachelor's and Integrated Masters with a scholarship equal to the amount of the tuition fee.

NOVA Doctoral School that offers complementary and transversal training for PhD students at the University.

NOVA, A GLOBAL AND CIVIC UNIVERSITY

Global because its teaching and research are international in quality, agenda and partnerships; and civic because it is committed to the development of society, culture, and economy in the Lisbon region, the country and Europe but also in Portuguese-speaking countries.

As a transformation agent, NOVA intends to make a contribution to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

THE CITY OF LISBON

Lisbon is a city that combines the charm of history, culture and tradition with a cosmopolitan and forward-looking environment.

The Greater Lisbon region, where NOVA's nine teaching units are distributed, is crossed by the Tagus River and bathed by the Atlantic, inviting the practice of sports and activities by the sea and taking advantage of the mild temperature and the countless sunny days throughout the year.
