"Analysing the impact of intangibles on European firms innovation and productivity"
Over the last years, several works have developed research on intangibles’ contribution to economic growth, especially using national account data. At the microeconomic level, few works have been developed, especially by articulating organizational capital with R&D. There is then a need to go further, by considering complementarity of a set of intangibles, including those related to innovation ecosystems, business models, and digital. This is one of the main focus of a major European research project, to which we are contributing within a leading European team, over the period 2019-2021. Our contribution will among others develop a set of modelling and measures to the impact of intangibles on firms’ innovation and productivity, which aim at complementing those already available from survey data (such as CIS). We will specifically develop a forward-looking approach and consider how digital and global value chain re-arrangements impact the conditions of value creation and innovation potential for firms, including SMEs.
