LERU is an interest organisation in which 23 leading European universities are united. lts activities consist of identifying strategically important themes of European research, innovation and education policy, discuss them within the organisation, formulate common positions and communicate them to the stakeholders (European and national authorities, stakeholder organisations, universities and industry). A second role of LERU consists in the promotion of cooperation and the development of best practices between the member universities. LERU policy positions are developed through a number of policy groups (PG) and thematic groups (TG).
The LERU Policy Officer coordinates and supports the activities of certain LERU PG, in particular those dealing with "Enterprise & Innovation" (PG) and "Information & Open Access" (PG).
You are the first point of contact for these PG.
You coordinate the work of the PG, together with their steering groups/chair persons. This includes a.o. the development of agendas for their meetings, writing briefing papers and meeting reports, attending meetings and carrying out decisions taken, etc.
You monitor EU policy in your areas of responsibility, provide analysis, inform and advise your LERU groups.
You monitor the agenda's of the European institutions, their press releases and the documents they publish.
You monitor the legislative proposals of the European institutions, make an analysis of their impact for LERU and its members, and formulate LERU positions on them.
You participate in EU meetings and maintain contacts with relevant EU officials and others.
You report directly to the Secretary-General on your areas of responsibility.
You have a Master of Law degree. A previous relevant work experience is desirable.
Education or work experience in one of the following areas is a plus: research policy, education policy, innovation policy, research unit, cabinet, consultancy, public affairs, law firm.
You are familiar with the European higher education and research sector, with the relevant EU policies, bodies and their functioning.
You have excellent analytical and synthetic skills, which you apply in writing papers and reports.
You have good presentation, communication and networking skills.
You have an excellent command of written and spoken English, level full professional proficiency.
You are well organised, can manage various projects simultaneously and can plan your activities to adhere to short deadlines.
You are self-reliant and can work independently, but are also able to work well with others.
You are able to successfully interact with an international netwerk of contacts at the LERU universities and in Brussels.
A fulltime employment for an indefinite period,paid in grade 7, grade 8 or exceptionally grade 9.
