Develop and implement unit-process modules to integrate 2D MX2 in multi-sheet GAA-FET with a CMOS-compatible process flow

What you will do

Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMDC) viz., MoS2, WSe2 (MX2) etc., are widely considered to be the strongest candidate to replace/augment silicon as the semiconductor-of-choice for scaled transistors in advanced nodes. To leapfrog mature silicon technology, which is already in the gate-all-around nanosheet (GAA-NS) era of production, it is important to foresee and solve the challenges associated with having 2D-MX2 in such complicated device architecture. At imec, we have already taken the first steps in integrating MoS2 in lab-based GAA-NSFET devices with a state-of-the art performance (Xi et al, IEDM 2024).

To further strengthen the 2D-NSFET work we are looking for a candidate with a strong lab-based fabrication background, and preferably, experience with 2D-material and device characterization. You would be working to develop and implement unit-process modules to integrate 2D MX2 in multi-sheet GAA-FET with a CMOS-compatible process flow. The role also requires identifying the best device geometry, implementing the design, electrical characterization of the device and correlating the electrical and other physical characterization (e.g., AFM, SEM, TEM) data to set-up experimental splits for continuous improvement through parallel learning cycles.

In this role you are to cooperate with a muti-disciplinary team of experts in (lab and fab based) unit processes, integration, device learning and modelling. You are also expected to disseminate your progress among peers, imec’s industrial partners and academic/industrial conferences.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium (2-year contract, extension or permanent contract possible afterwards). With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You have a PhD degree or MSc in electronics engineering, material physics, electronic physics or a closely related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in lab-processing and clean-room based device fabrication is a must.
  • Theoretical understanding of, and experience with, material and device physics.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, results driven, and a team-player.
  • We appreciate your open mind, multi-disciplinary attitude and “always improving” mentality.
  • Given the international character of imec, good knowledge of (spoken and written) English is a must.

We seek a candidate who thrives in a dynamic work environment, showcasing an adaptability to diverse projects or research topics. You’ll be a key team player, ready to support colleagues and tackle impactful projects within the timelines of our trusted global partners.

IMEC and its affiliates will not accept unsolicited resumes from any source other than directly from a candidate. IMEC will consider unsolicited referrals and/or resumes submitted by vendors such as search firms, staffing agencies, professional recruiters, fee-based referral services and recruiting agencies (hereafter “Agency”) to have been referred by the Agency free of charge. IMEC will not pay a fee to any Agency that does not have a prior written agreement with IMEC, validated by its HR department, in place regarding a specific job opening and allowing to submit resumes.
