The position will be based in the Department of Physics within the School of Mathematics and Natural Science. It is to be taken up by 1st of October, 2020.
This professorship is funded by the “Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses”, a tenure track programme by the German Federal Government in cooperation with the Federal States of Germany.
We are seeking an outstanding scientist at an early career stage with an excellent track record in theoretical particle physics. The successful candidate will join the activities of the internationally visible research group in theoretical particle physics. The focus of the group is on quantum chromodynamics on the lattice and the candidate is expected to strengthen or complement these activities. Additional links exist to the research foci in experimental particle- and astroparticle-physics, as well as to the institutionally established collaboration with the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. We expect that the new colleague will play an active role in applications for future coordinated programs.
The University considers gender equality as an important task, and the successful candidate will contribute to its implementation.
As a rule, junior professors are appointed as temporary civil servants for a period of three years. Their position is extended for a further three years if they have proven themselves in an interim evaluation. Consequent to a positive tenure evaluation in the sixth year, the junior professor will be tenured as an associate professor (W2, permanent position). Both evaluation procedures are based on a target agreement which is part of the appointment negotiations. The target agreement, as well as a confirmation of the resources available to the professorship, are an integral part of the appointment agreement between university and candidate.
