Biological Sciences – Structural biology
The Architecture and Function of Biological Macromolecules (AFMB) laboratory, supervised by the CNRS and Aix-Marseille Univ and in partnership with INRAE, is internationally recognized in the field of structural biology. It is located in the Luminy campus in the south of Marseille, where it benefits from an exceptional scientific, technological and educational environment.
Research themes at the AFMB laboratory range from glycobiology and glycogenomics to microbiology, virology and neurobiology. The common objective is the detailed description of the structure-function relationships of proteins, protein-ligand complexes and macromolecular assemblies using modern multidisciplinary approaches in bioinformatics, genetic engineering, biology/biochemistry, biophysics, medicinal chemistry and structural biology.
We are seeking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and creative individual with solid knowledge and expertise in structural biology and biochemistry to investigate the structure-function relationships of enzymes involved in heparan sulfate degradation. In particular, we aim at deciphering how protein partnership or oligosaccharide-based compounds could modulate enzymatic activity. The position is available in the team “Structural Glycobiology and Neurobiology” and is funded by the ANR collaborative project HeparInfSkin with the groups of Kevin Baranger (LIENSs, La Rochelle) and Franck Morel (LITEC, Poitiers).
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EDUCATION & RESEARCH REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have a recent Ph.D. (or being in the process of completing one) in a relevant field with a demonstrated record of productive research. Experience in protein expression, particularly in eukaryotic cells, in biochemistry, and in single particle cryo-EM or X-ray crystallography is highly desirable.
