Title: Synthesis and antibacterial evaluation of ionic liquids derived of triaminophenaziums and their sulfur analogues

Project: The research project concerns the synthesis of new phenazinium and/or phenothiazinium derivatives that will be investigated as antibacterial agents (Staphylococcus aureus). Chemical engineering at the molecular level will allow a fine tuning of their properties (solubility, non-covalent interaction ability, toxicity, luminescence) in order to understand (and ultimately to overcome) the functioning of the efflux pump involved in bacterial antibiotic resistance.
Contents: Organic synthesis, magnetic measurement, evaluation of fluorescence properties and antibacterial evaluation on compounds will be performed in collaboration with Dr. J. M. Bolla (UMR-MD1 Faculty of Medicine, la Timone, Marseille France).
Profile of the candidate: PhD in molecular chemistry with a strong background in organic synthesis and knowledge and skills in green chemistry (ionic liquids, microwave chemistry). Experience in fluorescence spectroscopy, as well as knowledge of antibacterial testings, will be greatly appreciated. Applicants are expected to be creative, autonomous, motivated and very enthusiastic about working in an interdisciplinary and challenging research environment.
